We are used to throwing away everything, but for some reason we want to keep our baby’s items forever. Even so, when you are expecting a baby, people can’t wait to pass on their cribs and crib bedding. As baby rearing is very costly, one should be grateful for the baby bedding offered. Always make sure before you choose to use any bedding and crib for your child, that they are safe and won’t harm your child.

Whether it is a Moses basket or baby crib, there is something very special about your child’s first bed. You’ll probably be taking some time to refinish the crib if you’ve been given a hand-me-down. If so, this is the perfect time to make sure that the bed is safe. You may have new looking bedding and crib, but you must always check them for safety purposes. An old wicker cradle can be beautiful to look at but check for safety as there may be loose or broken bits of wood, and some joints can become loose or weakened from age; we also would recommend that you replace the mattress with a new one. When you fit the skirt, see that there are no loose ends or things that can go into the mouth of the baby.

When choosing the drapes, it’s a very good idea to consider ones that can’t shed threads or pieces of material that the baby can grab or put in their mouth. If the budget allows it is always best to buy new for baby in lieu of safety reasons says the organization of the Juvenile Products Manufacturer’s Association (JPMA), regulating the USA and the British Standards (BS) set in the UK. Go in for JPMA or BS ‘KITE’ marked products. They are quite safe.

Previously used items are fine as long as they still meet safety requirements because it’s economical and environmentally correct to recycle usable baby bedding. Your baby will spend many hours in his crib, so it is important to carefully examine and test it for safety. Please remember the following points when you check your baby equipment for safety. Be sure that snags that could catch on a baby’s clothes, as well as all chipped, loose, or toxic lead paints, are removed. The bars of the crib must be closer than 2 and 3/8 inches apart and the header and footer boards should not have any holes. Then the baby is free from any accident. The joints and fixings should be tight .Otherwise the crib will wobble. It’s critical that the side rail’s raising and lowering mechanism stays fully secured when raised in place, and one should be able to manage this simple task with one hand. Last, the mattress should be clean and not too soft, and be sure that the side rail is no lower than 22 inches above the crib mattress.

I think it is important that each new baby should get a new mattress, but make sure the mattress fits well in the crib before buying. Nursery bedding can be dangerous so it is important to make sure that all the bumpers strings are tied down or just remove the bumper completely. Babies under the age of 12 months should not have access to the following in their cribs: duvets, quilts, sheepskin or pillows, while use of these items could cause overheating. Put something to measure the temperature and utilize blankets and sheets in the room. Babies can climb much better than a lot of people think. That is why to ensure safety, you should never put their crib next to cords, lamps, window blinds/curtains or furniture.

Always remember your children grow up quickly so it is great to have a wonderful, safe, and fun time with your child.
