The Unexpected Advantages of a Notebook

Author: Matthew Kerridge  |  Category: Electronics

Some time ago, I made the decision to move overseas. I wanted to know what it was like to live in a different country. Besides that, I made the decision to separate myself from my worldly possessions. I would start life in my new home with only those items that I could bring with me in my luggage. In those days I was a happy user of a desktop PC, but that was soon to change.

At that time my PC was already a critical part of my life. Naturally I would need to bring it with me. It held e-mails, letters, documents, and records, some of which had key information I needed, and some of which was irreplaceable for sentimental reasons. In addition, the PC was the tool I planned to use to make a living, since I could do my online work from anywhere in the world. But would it be possible to pack the desktop in a suitcase? And what about the monitor and other peripherals? It quickly became clear that converting from a desktop PC to a notebook would resolve these difficulties.

I researched the major brands and models of notebook available, picked one from a reputable manufacturer that met my needs, and bought it online. Then I faced the task of moving all of my personalized files from my old PC to the much more compact notebook.

This task was made easy by a program that I downloaded, which prompted me as it transported the files from desktop to notebook. Mission accomplished! Now I had a notebook with which I could do everything I could previously do on my desktop, but which took up far less space. It even incorporated the keyboard, display, and mouse, so I wouldn’t need to bring those. But I also had a revelation that the notebook could do even more for me.

I realized that there were other things I wanted to bring with me, things that had never been stored on my PC but which could be added to the notebook — digital (or digitizable) information of any kind, such as documents, music, and photographs. Inspired, I loaded all the music I owned onto the notebook, and scanned all the paperwork and photographs I wanted to bring. These digital copies now took the place of all my CDs, record albums, cassettes, shoeboxes full of photos, and files of papers.

This was amazing! In my quest to replace the bulk of my PC with a notebook that could easily be transported, I discovered that I could also eliminate the bulk of my CDs, record albums, cassettes, photographs, and paper documents, without losing any of the information they held. It seemed too good to be true. But it wasn’t — the wonder of technology made it possible. As a result, I was able to bring much more of my life with me to my new home than I had thought possible.

After several more months of careful planning and preparation, I carried out the move, and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. It’s no exaggeration to say that the notebook made it possible.

Shopping Tips To Cut Grocery Bills

Author: Virginia Chou  |  Category: Shopping

Here are the tips which will cut your grocery bill significantly if applied appropriately. In current economic conditions which are hard for many families, these tips should come in handy and please let us know if you have any more tips which we will include in this article if qualifies.

Do your Homework
Planning before you head off to the supermarket will help you shop more economically. Take the time to do a quick inventory of your kitchen to determine the food that you need. Prepare your shopping list and make notations of applicable coupons that you may want to use. Read the newspapers and circulars to find the best deals.

Choose the Right Store
For basic grocery needs many grocery stores now offer excellent product and price selection, frequent shoppers programs and double coupon days. However, when buying in bulk you may want to tackle the warehouse clubs or superstores. Non-perishable items are often at unbeatable prices at such stores. For the best prices on health and beauty products check the national drugstore chains and superstores.

Eat First
Grocery stores know the power of the sweet smell of freshly baked bread. Just one sniff will ignite the appetite and send even the most hardened shopper down the aisle grabbing for anything that looks good. Remember, everything looks good when our stomachs are screaming, “feed me!”

Rebates, Coupons, Frequent Shopper Programs
You can save hundreds of dollars a year by taking advantage of product incentives. Even the less enthusiastic coupon clipper can shave an average of 10 percent off their bottom-line by cashing in a small handful of coupons per trip.

If your store offers a frequent shopper program, why not sign-up? You will receive advanced notice of special loss leaders, double-coupon days and other money saving information.

Store Brands – Try it and You May Like it
The days of generic type packaging and bland tasting food in store brand products is over. Companies have worked hard to improve their store label brands and often the taste is equal to the national brands. Do not be afraid to experiment. If you find the product meets your standards, you can save an average of 40 percent off your annual grocery bill.

Set Limits on Impulse Buying
Avoiding spontaneous shopping trips is one of the best deterrents to impulse buying. Sticking to a well thought-out shopping list will help will help cut down on grabbing for things that you do not need. In addition giving yourself enough time to shop will help prevent dashing in and reaching for the first item that you come to. Setting a dollar limit for impulse buying will help soothe cravings without busting the budget.

Comparison Shopping
To determine the true value of a product read the unit price, not just the package price. The unit price information is usually on a sticker located on the shelf that holds the item. The package price only tells you the cost of the entire item. The unit price shows the cost per pound, ounce, etc. Taking a moment to compare this information in similar products will help you get the best value for your dollar. Also, be certain to check “expiration” and “use by” dates to insure you are buying the freshest products. Check the deals and coupons sites like Hot Deals, Coupons @ http://www.DealsGlobe.com to find out money saving deals and coupons.

Marketing Strategies that you should be Aware of
Avoid marketing gimmicks designed to draw your attention to a particular product. Knowing some of the tricks of the trade will ultimately save you money. Beware of end-of-the-aisle dump bins, island displays, recipe related item placement and middle-shelf items. This is typically where higher priced and impulse products are placed.

Read Labels
Reading the product label is the best way to find out more than what is advertised on the box. Ingredients are listed in order by the quantity actually used when making the product. The ingredients used in the highest quantity are listed first. For example, if you are looking for avocado dip you will want to see avocadoes listed in the first part of the ingredient list, not the last part.

If you are looking to cut fat from your diet, be careful of words such as “lite” or “fat-free” which can have broad definitions. By reading the label you can get a better idea of what the fat-to-calorie ratio is as well as other valuable nutritional information.

Watch the Price Scanner
It may mean you need to put down the magazine, because this is no place to get lax. Keeping your eyes peeled to the scanner has dual advantages. First, it will keep the cashier more alert. Secondly, it will allow you to stop the checkout process if an item is showing the incorrect price. Keeping the store circular nearby is also helpful in disputing an incorrect price. You can also ask the cashier to stop ringing while you accompany the employee to the aisle to check the price of an item. Find used items for sale @ http://www.AdsGlobe.com.

Buy Food in Bulk
Many smart shoppers like stocking up on food items in order to save money on their grocery bills, but before filling up the cupboards (and every other possible space) with bulk items, you may want to review the average shelf life of the most common foods we buy.

Ask for Rain Check

How many times have you spotted an item at a great price in a retailer’s advertisement, jumped into your car to go get it, only to find out that they are sold out? It is a frustrating experience and one that occurs too frequently. Ask a store employee to help you locate the item if you are unable to find it. If the item is sold out, ask for a rain check or for a similar item at the same sale price. Smart shoppers will ask for rain checks everywhere they shop.

Top Tips on Shopping for Wheels and Tires

Author: Will Treps  |  Category: Shopping

Finding and getting the right wheel can be an important choice since it will eventually save you a lot of money and trouble in the long run. You also ensure your safety and that of your passengers. Here are some basic tips when shopping for tires and wheels.

Look for Package Deals

Wheel and tires can be sold separately. This may be an option for you if you don’t really need to replace your wheels just yet. Sometimes though, it makes better sense to shop for package deals. You can order all four car tires with their wheels. This can usually help you save a few dollars in shipping than if you ordered separately.

One other added advantage of ordering package sets is that you get only the best fit and mounting service from your dealer. If you aren’t very experienced in fitting wheels and tires, you should just really leave it to the experts.

Look for a Lot of Options

It is important to keep in mind that there are some specific vehicle types that should only be fitted with specific tire sizes and dimensions. This doesn’t mean though that you have to be stuck with only just one tire and wheel brand or model. Look for dealers that can offer you wider selections and options for your vehicle.

Ask for Installation Instructions

Make sure that they come with full installation instructions before you pay for your purchases. Reputable dealers won’t forget to insert the appropriate guidelines but you can never be too sure. Nothing spells frustration better than getting a whole package of wheels and tires and not knowing what to do with them.

If it doesn’t come with any instructions on installing, make sure your dealer is willing to offer help with finding someone who can install it. It can be tricky finding installers on your own if you do not personally know any good ones. Look for an online tire dealer who already has a good list of installer prospects to choose from.

Read Reviews

Do some research. After reading through product information and the advice of your dealer representative, you should look for even more unbiased opinion. You can usually get that from other consumers who have tried and tested tires and wheels of different brands. Look for consumer opinions in forums or in online review and rating sites. This will help ensure that you aren’t just being drawn by a sales representative who’s trying hard to sell.

Evaluate Policies and Terms

Different online tire dealers have different rules and terms. Make sure that you read all the fine print before clicking the buy button. You would want to be sure about shipping policies, exact costs, hidden costs, warranty rule and return policies. You would have to be at ease with all of your dealer’s terms before you get a tire and wheel package.

Look for Customer Service

If things don’t go well with delivery and installation, you need good customer service to lean on. Your dealer should have knowledgeable personnel who are ready and willing to answer all your wheels and tires questions.

Find the best online offers for tires on sale. Choose your options for tires on sale online.
